Further Details

Classes
I can offer Kumon English and Maths for children of all ages and abilities, who are drawn from a wide and thriving geographical area. Currently I have students from numerous schools in Shirley, Addiscombe, West Wickham, and Selsdon.
My long-term focus is to build on your Childs’s confidence and self-learning skills to realise their full potential throughout school and beyond. This is achieved through my dedication to your children and their need to learn and succeed in every level throughout the programme being studied.
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting your children to answer any more questions. Furthermore it would give me the opportunity make you feel at ease with the programme, my staff and myself!!

Ages and Levels Covered
Weekly visits to the centre are an important focal point of your child’s Kumon programme and therefore it is vital that you have selected my centre for convenience and location to school, home and after school activities.
On the pre-arranged day your child will visit the centre to begin their weekly cycle of study.
At this time they will deliver the work that they have completed in the previous week and pick up the new work that I have set especially for them the week ahead. Setting your child’s work is based on the results of completed work, accuracy and speed.
Having handed in their file to an assistant, they will then complete the selected piece of work for that day at the centre. My friendly staff are always on hand as am I if the work proves to be challenging or they are starting a new topic. My assistant then marks this and any corrections completed before having feedback with myself.
There are other activities available for your child to do while waiting for work to be marked; number boards 30, 50 and 100, timetables, addition and subtraction, fractions and decimal charts. For those studying English there is a ever growing selection of reading books, chosen to compliment the programme and other related activities.

Feedback is their chance to ask any questions and my opportunity to chat with them about their progress, your child will have a record book that charts their progress in the form of a graph. A great motivational tool for children, parent and instructor to see on a regular basis!
The centre sessions are run on a drop in basis whereby students come along at anytime between 4pm-6pm Mondays/Wednesdays.
Parents are asked to stay either on the premises in the waiting room or within the grounds. There is ample, free parking. I would encourage Parents to use these facilities rather than being present in the hall where your child is studying, so they feel motivated to work independently.
I would recommend that for one subject you arrive no later than 5.15pm and for both subjects 5pm. Late arrivals are welcome to simply collect their work to take home and complete.
My staff and I strive to ensure that each student leaves the session in a positive frame of mind, ready to tackle the week ahead with renewed enthusiasm for their Kumon study.

What happens at enrolement?
Your child will take a diagnostic test in their chosen subject which will determine their genuinely “easy starting point” in the programme, ensuring that they can begin with 100% accuracy and a fast completion time. Thus, your child will begin the Kumon cycle with immediate success and can be sure that they are building on a strong foundation.
Please be aware that the diagnostic tests cannot be used to determine your child’s performance at school, as they are not age related.
However, my aim is for every student to fulfil their academic potential and hence achieve a strong foothold in the core subjects.
