Further Details

Classes
Classes are available on Mondays and Thursdays. For those studying one subject, the class is around 40 minutes long and for those studying two subjects, approximately an hour. Before the first class, a full assessment of the student is carried out and a detailed description of the kumon programme is given to the family. This takes place at the student's home and lasts approximately two hours. At the first class, the student is welcomed by an assistant and guided through the class procedure. Visits to class are comfortable, enjoyable and motivating, as the children receive praise for their achievements. The visit to the centre usually lasts between 40 and 60 minutes with various tasks and activities to complete in that time. In subsequent classes, the student will return with homework that is completed and marked by the parent. It is very important that completed homework is returned to the Instructor regularly. Progress through the programme is continually monitored, based on homework and class performance.

Centre Director(s)
The Chingford North Kumon Centre opened in May 2009 and is run by Sam Ahmed. As someone who has always been passionate about education and worked in the educational sector for many years, Sam saw the benefits of the Kumon programme straight away. Her belief in the value of Kumon only became stronger once her own two daughters excelled in their studies after only six months into the programme. Having seen the results for herself, she wanted to give all students the opportunity to learn, to build self confidence and to reach their potential. In short, she wanted all children to inherit the skills that the programme had taught her own children. Before she became an Instructor, she researched heavily into other learning methods and other programmes. Kumon stood out from the rest because it gave the opportunity to children to practice and master each fundamental level before moving on. To become a great footballer, musician or artist, daily practice is a necessity. The same is true for maths and English. The idea of completing work daily might seem daunting to those who only receive homework from school once a week. However, for those children studying Kumon, homework is not the exception, but the rule and the results for these children speak for themselves.

About Us
Kumon is one of the leading education providers in the UK and Ireland, helping children to excel in maths and English by offering unique study programmes. With over 58,000 students in the UK and Ireland, Kumon caters for children of all ages and abilities, and rather than offering a ‘quick-fix’ it provides a long-term solution that will boost their confidence and develop skills to last a lifetime. Focusing on each child as an individual, Kumon aims to provide children with tools for transferable learning and to ensure that they study at a level that is right for them. Whether your child struggles or excels, a Kumon programme can be tailored to their needs, and by regular study of only 10-20 minutes per day they can build confidence, accuracy, concentration and independence in learning. Through working at their own pace over a period of time, children are given the self-assurance to reach their potential and shine, both at school and throughout life. Kumon was originally established 50 years ago. At the heart of the Kumon method is the belief that all children are capable of greatness, and with the help of parents, family and friends they can develop in ways that will amaze you. Kumon emphasises a traditional grounding in the three R’s, as well as providing children with life-long transferable study skills. Kumon’s founder, Toru Kumon, believed every child has the potential to learn far beyond his or her parents’ expectations. He said: "It’s our job as educators not to stuff knowledge into children as if they were merely empty boxes, but to encourage each child to want to learn, to enjoy learning and be capable of studying whatever he or she may need to or wish to in the future.” If you would like more information about Kumon and how it can help your child, please contact Sam on 020 8501198 / 07751216722.
