Kumon is all about Maths and English learning, not 'teaching' in the conventional sense. Our approach is different. We pursue each individual's potential by nurturing their self -learning skills. We don't spoon feed students with knowledge as we don't want them to learn to become dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others. In order to achieve long term benefits we take a long term approach, nurturing strong study skills from the very beginning. Our aim is for your child to become a confident self learner with a positive attitude to study. Through Kumon Maths and English programmes, not only do we want them to succeed academically, but also carry their appetite for learning throughout life.
At Kumon your child's work is individualised according to their needs and ability. When they attend the study centre, they are observed so that they can be supported and guided towards the right answers, but also the right study techniques. We want your child to study at a level they can concentrate and be motivated, allowing us to increase their ability and desire to learn independently.

The classes at the Maghull Kumon centre are for children from pre-school right up to the completion of High school.

The Kumon Centre at Maghull is open Monday 3.30 - 5.30pm and Thursday 3.30 - 5.30pm

Hello, my name is Mark Hughes. I am the instructor for the Kumon Maghull centre.I have trained and qualified as a teacher which culminated in a postgraduate certificate of education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS). I have a BSc (Hons) and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Wales Cardiff. I was responsible for teaching, marking and preparing lessons in accordance with the school's curriculum. I have prepared lessons for school children ensuring that there was a differentiation of pupil's work within classes according to abilities. The PGCE course involved working in various schools with all types of children, both special needs and advanced stages, to obtain a varied training/ teaching experience. I also did an open day for local schools where they were able to come to Edge Hill University for the day and see practical science demonstrations. As a teacher I have also been at parents' evenings and have been able to give feed back to parents on the child's progress using the accumulated data I had from the marking of their work and classroom performance. I have also had a class form for registration etc. and invigilated exams.This training and the Kumon training has provided the perfect background to be a Kumon instructor.
