Classes
Kumon provide individualised Maths and English programmes. Attendance at class is on a "drop-in" basis during class times as each child works on their own individual programme. Children take approximately 20-30 minutes per subject and attend class once or twice a week.

The Kumon programmes work in a logical sequential way to develop mathematics and English skills and competence. All children are able to work at the most suitable pace for themselves meaning it is suitable for children requiring support through to those requiring additional challenge to school work. Many of our children study above school level as the programme encourages development of potential.

Ages and Levels Covered
Chlidren can start Kumon at 4 years of age and continue up to 'A' level standard. The programmes can also be studied be adults wishing to improve maths and English skills.

All newly enrolled students are guided through the class process by the class assistants who ensure they are welcomed, find their work quickly and swap completed homework for the work set for the following week. Students work under close supervision to settle into their new routine and receive guidance to help establish their new study skills. The time spent in class is invaluable in understanding a child's needs and how best to support and develop them. This observation time ensures work set can be individualised by the Instructor to support their development and maximise their potential.

Once the class work has been completed, students take part in supplementary activities such as the "numberboard challenge" (a magnetic board game designed to develop hand eye co-ordination and number sequencing skills), reading or testing mental maths skills such as "times tables" practice.

Once marked, any errors are corrected by the student assuring a positive outcome with all work completed as correct. This encourages greater confidence and boosts self-esteem as well as addressing any misunderstandings or careless errors to ensure the child is in the best position to tackle their homework. At all times students are observed working but may choose to ask for help themselves as needed, particularly as they begin to develop self-learning skills and are able to work with less dependency and intervention. Students receive feedback during class for personal achievements and good attitude but are also able to take responsibility for their own learning by being able to discuss their own development and goals where appropriate.

Achievement Tests are taken on completion of each level, with a certificate awarded plus a report for parents on the results achieved and the plan and content of the next level. This information is also discussed with the student to encourage motivation and progression throughout the programme.

Award ceremonies take place each year to recognise the progress of students. Certificates are awarded to students working at a higher level than their peers and those who have made significant progress in their study skills. These award ceremonies are just one of a number of ways that we recognise student achievement and encourage motivation throughout the programme and to completion.
