Centre Director(s)
My name is Brenda Boyd. I failed most things at school and went back to learn in my twenties. It was a revelation to gain a first class degree at Strathclyde University and understand some of the reasons why I had found school so difficult. From there I went on to qualify as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen and then enjoy a period in management consulting with PwC, where I specialised in client training and development. I spent a number of years as a childminder before my daughter went to school and that taught me how much I liked working with children. (sometimes not so different from some senior management I had worked with!) My fascination with Kumon began when I was looking for a programme which would allow me to support my daughter through her school studies. I qualified as a Kumon instructor a number of years ago and I continue to learn from the children that I am privileged to work with in Kumon.
About Us
Kumon offers its maths and English programmes world-wide. We have been in business for over 50 years and over 4 million students are progressing through the programme today. I believe that it is the most structured, researched and practised method available to help a parent support their child's studies through school. I wanted my own child to complete the programmes and I was so impressed with the methodology, that I undertook the franchise in my area. Not only does it provide strong foundations in the key skills of maths and English but it teaches children how to study effectively at home. In my professional career to date, I have never met such an educated, motivated and dedicated group of people as my fellow kumon instructors. I aspire to be like them and put the needs of the children first.
