Classes
Kumon provide individualised Maths and English programmes. Attendance at class is on a "drop-in" basis during class times as each child works on their own individual development plan. Children take approximately 20-30 minutes per subject and attend class once or twice a week.

The Kumon programmes provide supplementary study, designed in a very logical, step by step, way. Children join the programmes at a level which is "just right" for them and progress is made through mastery of each topic. All children are able to work at their own pace meaning it is suitable for children requiring support through to those requiring additional challenge to school work.


Kumon students follow a daily work programme. They attend the centre once or twice a week where they do their day's work in the classroom. The time spent in the centre is invaluable. It enables the instructor to assess each child's study skills and progress, thereby allowing close monitoring to ensure that study is always at just the right level. It also allows us to give guidance for new topics and conduct achievement tests. The students usually stay at the centre for around half an hour if they're studying one subject or 45 minutes if studying both maths and English. You can call in at any time during the opening hours but please ensure you're early enough for the child to complete his/her work.

When students arrive at the centre, they change over their work leaving their homework and collecting their new work for the week. They complete today's work at the centre independently whilst being observed by the instructor or an assistant. This way we can spot where children need additional guidance or if we need to work on particular study skills. All work is timed. When they have finished their work they hand it in for marking. Maths students will then complete a time-challenge with the Kumon number board. English students will read out loud to the instructor or an assistant every time they visit the centre. This gives us the opportunity to assess their abilities and suggest ways in which they can improve. The children collect their marked work and do any corrections. Work is then re-marked. Usually children have no difficulty doing their own corrections but help is at hand if needed.

The children are given positive feedback and encouragement, with timely appropriate targets. They are also rewarded for each day's work with a sticker. When they have collected enough stickers they are given a prize for showing motivation and perseverance.

Parents usually wait in the reception area of the community centre where there is seating, books and magazines, and toilets. The centre has a friendly informal atmosphere and is very child focused. There is full disabled access.

Ages and Levels Covered
Kumon study is suitable for children of all ages as the programme goes from pre-school learning up to around "A" level study. Students simply join the programme at the right level for them.

Monday 4:30 - 6:30
Wednesday 3:30 - 5:30

The centre opens on a drop-in basis for students to attend once or twice a week. Typical study time is around 30 minutes for one subject or 45 minutes for both subjects.
