If you are a student that is preparing for 11+ exams, the most common thing to remember is to check through the question once you have attempted it. Invariably, students who check their work thoroughly end up getting the highest marks. Complacency is extremely common amongst students at 11+ and this must be eradicated if a consistently high mark is to be achieved in the final examinations. In my experience, not checking through can cost a student on average between 15-20% of their final mark! This can easily be the difference between getting into a top school or not!
Also, checking through must be done slowly and thoroughly - it is not to be skimmed, as otherwise it is not effective!
Finally, I recommend that students do each question twice as they go along, as it is very difficult to go back to question 1 at the end of the exam and have full concentration on it, especially in timed conditions. This of course does mean, that students need to work fast and effectively. As per usual, my advice, Practice really does make perfect!
