Don't underestimate the importance of self confidence for children at the tender age between 8 - 11. They need to understand that they matter and that they are good enough for whatever they put their mind to. Today's media seem to tell children that they should act a certain way, look a certain way or dress a certain way. Children need to have freedom to think for themselves and to find their own identity.
In embarking on preparation for the 11 plus exam, it is important to build children's self esteem and allow them to make mistakes, then learn from them. Praise them when they try and not only when they get things right.
