Funny isn't it? A few years ago I would never have imagined myself to have become a private tutor, not in a million years. But it happened, so the question is, why?
Well there is an obvious benefit: money. No one can say that its not about money, because if it wasn't, they would be doing it for free. And being a student is no cheap affair, I can tell you...
But money isn't everything. I, personally, am funded well enough to have no need for a student loan, or to have to get tight and not spend much on nights out, so tutoring is not something I need to do. But I want to, and whilst many will say they enjoy teaching a subject, it is an entirely different matter to show true enthusiasm, because it is not something you can fake.
My personal craze is the human body. It sounds like a cliche but it is truly the most amazing thing ever. It is mind boggling to even come to terms with the complex series of chemical reactions occurring every second to keep us alive, or the thousands of action potentials (nerve impulses) that are firing right this second as you are reading these words, traveling through millions of cells in your brain just for these words to make sense. It just works so perfectly ...well it does go wrong but that's a whole other ball park.
For many months I have seriously considered going into teaching, but as I am still at university, private tutoring is my only option. I want to help nurture scientific enthusiasm, to ready pupils for the truths of science, to understand that there is more to the endless stream of facts we hear in the classroom.
Contact me, and get ready for some real science!
