We are genetically hard-wired to learn through experience. For that reason, our learning style should be based on hands on experience. However, every individual learner is different and therefore each has an individual learning style. My first assessment is to find out the learning style of the learner. Then, I differentiate the teaching material in order to fit the learning style of the learner. My general approach is context to concept style.
There are several techniques I use to enhance learning. One of my techniques is 'mind mapping'.
Mind Mapping is a useful technique that improves the way you take notes, and supports and enhances your creative problem solving.
By using Mind Maps, you can quickly identify and understand the structure of a subject, and the way that pieces of information fit together, as well as recording the raw facts contained in normal notes.
Having learned and understood the content of the syllabus, students have to apply the knowledge and answer examination questions. Hence, I facilitate ample practice on past paper questions.
During my tutorials, I promote discussion and critical thinking. This promotes inquiring minds in students which can help them leap from grade A to grade A*.
