I became a tutor because I believe passionately in the value of learning. Learning is never ending and has the potential to change lives in quite remarkable ways. Whilst learning is something that, on one level, every human being does innately, there are also many skills that can be taught which can enhance the learning experience making it more valuable and useful to the individual. Everybody can be taught to increase their own learning skills and how to maximize their own learning.
Learning should be fun, though unfortunately in today’s pressurized environment, many youngster’s experience of learning is far from the pleasurable experience it should be.
As a result of the extensive reading and research I undertook for my Masters Degree in Science Education I now understand a great deal more about the actual process and psychology of learning. I see myself as far more than a mere 'passer on' of scientific knowledge. I hope that I can give my students something far greater than simply the knowledge necessary to pass this or that exam. My aim is to give them the ability, motivation and confidence to learn for themselves. I strive to enable my students to become independent, lifelong learners.
