There is a book which was written by Professor Sugata Mitra, who was my personal tutor when I studied for my Master’s Degree. Here is bibliographic information of the book:
Title: The hole in the wall: self-organising systems in education
Author: Sugata Mitra
ISBN: 0070617872, 9780070617872
This book is made up of two parts: a printed book and a CD-ROM.
In the book, Professor Mitra illustrated several projects which have been undertaken in various rural areas of developing countries, where teachers often do not want to work. In each project, computer-based self organising learning environment has been established and children can learn almost what they want to learn without even being restricted by language.
It could be assumed that curiosity motivates children’s learning. Therefore, whether it is during a school education or after class tutoring, if a instructor can take advantage of the curiosity of their learners, knowledge can be accepted by learners quickly and easily. In the book, Professor Mitra defined such a kind of teaching method as minimally invasive education.
In the CD-ROM accompanying the book, there are photographs and video clips which were captured during those projects. In those video clips, we can observe children’s feedback during the experiments. With the help of multi-media computers, they can learn almost what they want to learn in a positive atmosphere because the knowledge has all been obtained by themselves and for themselves.
