Dear All,

We are all part of the 21st Century. The most important question arises as to what extent humans will progress in years to come. Which science will play the most important part in shaping human life? I can comfortably say that environmental studies, medicine and technology will be the most important subjects that will shape the future of humans on planet earth.

If we talk about environment in general, it includes all the subjects shaping your surrounding. The environment can be called one big laboratory around you where you can observe all the physical processes taking place. It includes the subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology all interacting with each other with complex physical interdependence. Hence all students should find out in their own way which of these subjects fascinates them the most and study to master them.

If we talk about medicine it is one of the oldest subjects studied in the history of mankind. It has grown in leaps and bounds in the last century and in this century with combination of technology and medicine. It is about to grow further with new challenges arising every day such as SARS, 'bird flu', AIDS, Malaria, TB etc. If working for the betterment of human race through eliminating diseases is what interests you it is time you focussed on those subjects which will pave the way to success in medicine.

Finally, with reference to technology, there is a popular saying "Engineers have built the world" which is very apt, and the new age of technology has a very high concentration of engineers and designers shaping our daily lives and future. Technology is the future of mankind and will play a large part in our future.

With this brief description, I would like each pupil to open up their eyes to the future that lies ahead of them and cooperate with the rest of the world by developing their own skills in the area which interests them the most.

  Good luck for the future.
