Maths is really hard, and I hear a lot of pupils say "We don't need maths - when will I ever need quadratic equations in a Job?". These arguments sound good but, no they are wrong! Maths show employers that you can work hard and achieve something very difficult. All good jobs need at least a C at maths GSCE.
The best way to get a C is through practice practice practice. The horrible thing about maths is that it is very easy to forget simple topics. When it comes to revision the best method is to practise past papers. There are some excellent revision books written by the Mathematics Coordination group. These books explain all the topics in a clear way with lots of pictures and friendly language. They are great when practising past papers if you need to look something up quickly. For example, to double check a formula or to remember a process.
Maths really shouldn't be about exams and revision because there is a lot of fun to be had within mathematics. Like playing games and calculating wacky things. For example, How long would it take to count one million pounds? Or, if your heart beats 4 litres of blood a minute how many litres would it pump in a day? Or a year? My favourite maths game is Battleship Coordinated. This is a game of battleships that helps to remember the along the corridor and up the stairs method of plotting XY coordinates. I am unbeaten!
