Whilst at drama school I frequently worked on the audition panels. Many times an aspiring actor would enter the room and deliver a well prepared speech. The aspiring actor would show full signs of ability and potential yet would be rejected. Why?
There are many reasons why some very actors don't get into some institutions. I feel that some keys skills in awaking an actor's awareness about these reasons is crucial to that actor's success. Sometimes it can be hard to let go of bad habits and scary to fully commit to what it is you are saying... especially if it is Shakespeare. Audition panels want to see you and not a recital of a well prepared speech, so listening is crucial.
Free yourself so you can react in the moment. Really ask those questions... expect answers. React, don't act!
