When you feel out of shape, in pain or up tight with stress, what could be nicer than a hot bath or treatment of choice? Lovely… until the next day, that problem returns.
People are so used to receiving treatments for various problems that they have forgotten how to help themselves. The Technique helps you to help yourself.
This is achieved by lessons with a qualified Alexander teacher and your own self-awareness. You do not have to learn a new exercise routine. Your lesson involves your normal everyday movements and positions.
You might for example, explore how you react to standing, carrying yourself around upright, bending, sitting and lying down. Your mind and body are both involved so your memory is stimulated as you learn. Your teacher responds to you as an individual throughout your lesson.
Your challenge is in using less effort and tension in these same activities. You will rapidly discover tensions outside your present awareness, tensions that you can release.
- Your teacher guides and explains,
- Your self-awareness develops,
- and you strengthen your powers of self-help.
The Alexander Technique is useful in times of strain and stress, or injury. You can recover more quickly, once you realise you have stressed yourself too much.
In time, your enhanced self-awareness and the Technique help prevent and protect you from strain, at the time.
Using the Technique as part of your life maximises your self-help.
Though lessons involve challenge and change, your experience will usually be very relaxing and enjoyable.
