Bass Guitar

I find the Hal Leonard Bass Method (complete edition) is a good learning aid. It teaches my favoured 1-2-4 left hand fingering system which is great for smaller hands and is also easily transfered to fretless and double bass. The book gets the pupil reading music by going through each string at a time. As it progresses it builds up the essential theory. I particularly like the way it doesn't use TAB until much later on. It is spiral bound so it is a bit tougher and can sit on a music stands easier than a normal book. It comes with cds too. The only drawback is that the tunes can be a bit naff at times, but this is common with so many tutor books. Overall, I think it is a good book to get you started playing bass and reading music.
