I often get asked by students for the best way to tune their bass guitar, as this can be hard especially for beginners who have not yet tuned their ear to the correct sound of each string.

Well, if a student hasn't got and can't afford pitch pipes or one of the many guitar tuners on the market, and does not have access to a piano or another bass guitar, I suggest they visit a web site called Active Bass:

http://www.activebass.com

This site has an audio tuning fork which plays you the correct note for each string on your guitar.
