We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit - Aristotle

Ok, so Aristotle might be a bit heavy on a Tuesday morning but he has a point. The key to improving at bass (or anything else for that matter) is to practise as much as possible. This need not be 10 hours a day every day: 10 minutes is a good place to start but contact with your instrument on a daily basis is key. In my experience you will end up playing for much longer anyway.

Setting goals is important, so ask yourself what you would like to achieve. If by the end of the year you want to know all there is to know about Eastenders then watch Eastenders every night. However, if you would rather achieve Grade ‘x’ Bass/play in a band/learn your favorite songs/be able to jam with your friends then spend that time with your bass instead.

With a little dedication and the correct instruction you'll be amazed how quickly you can progress.

Have fun! Dan
