Prelude/ Overture 

  • French overture style  (dotted rhythms, Binary Form)

Allemande

  • German style
  • Any beat begins
  • Moderato tempo

Courante

  • French style
  • Triple meter

Sarabande

  • Spanish style
  • Triple meter
  • Slow Dance movement
  • Any beat begins
  • Normally emphasize on the 2nd beat

Gigue

  • British style
  • Upbeat begins

 

These dance suites are usually added between Sarabande and Gigue by Baroque composers

  • Gavotte
  • Bourree
  • Minuet
  • Passpied
  • Rigaudon
