I think it is important when singing to be completely relaxed and comfortable, and I therefore think it is really critical to match the student to the teacher. It has been my experience that when a pupil and teacher are comfortable with each other it truly makes music lessons fun. My teaching technique balances the enjoyable experience of singing with the sometimes difficult task of learning, I believe this is achieved through experimentation and individual stylised teaching.
I think that teaching can often get stuck in a rut and teachers can become stuck in their ways; however I believe it is a really important aspect of singing and teaching that every lesson and experience should be different. No two students are the same, therefore no two lessons should be.
Within my lessons I balance the technical aspects of singing and the important repertoire (for working towards exams and auditions) with the music that the students like and want to learn. I find that this keeps the students interested and enthusiastic about singing but also gives them the knowledge and skills to excel and progress.
