I have recently read Janice Chapman's book: "Singing and Teaching Singing"
It is easy to follow and gives detailed instructions into the popular 'accent method'. I have been trained in the accent method and have found that when followed properly, it gives quick and impressive results. The core components to a healthy, articulate voice are primal sound, postural alignment and breathing and support. When these work in conjunction with one another, a creative and resonant voice develops.
The repetitive nature of the method helps to break bad habits, which can take up to twelve weeks, and develop new habits. The brain is clever but the muscles take some time to learn!
The book also dispells the 'old wives tales' often associated with singing, and promotes how singing is a natural thing that shouldn't be forced or pulled.
It is a method that any age or ability can benefit from, is fun to work with children and adults alike and I would definitely recommend this book to any singer.
