Singing and what it means to me.

Singing is a form of expression.  It can heal people and it can bring peace and joy.  It can also give you a huge hit of adrenalin!  I came to singing via acting, my first love.    I remember aged 18 singing 'I dreamed a dream' in my home town production of Les Miserables and thinking it just doesn't get any better that this. Yes, I had been bitten by the performing bug. And I hadn't even experienced my first opera yet!

I come from a small town in New Zealand.  Sport is huge, Performing Arts not so huge.  We do have one special person who has been held up as a beacon to those of us dreaming of the operatic stage; Kiri Te Kanawa.  I idolised Kiri from afar and now count her as a mentor and friend.

I have been blessed with some pretty special singing teachers and I hope I can channel their knowledge and expertise with my own students and instill the same sense of joy and happiness the singing has brought me.
