As a professional singer I believe in nurturing the human voice, taking great care of it and working the adult voice to its true potential. So after years of training, improving your talent and studying to achieve great results, you are thrust in front a panel and expected to show exactly what you are capable of.
Instead of thinking about all that you have achieved and the techniques you know will allow you to perform well and without a beloved audience there to play off, you find that your hands are clammy, your breathing is shallow and that your mouth is dry, oh and your legs are probably violently shaking beneath you. Nerves are a part of every performer’s life and auditions seem to be more nerve-racking than any other situation you may find yourself in.
I have read many books concerning audition technique. However, what I would like to recommend was something a dear friend of mine gave me when she felt I needed a little encouragement to reassert myself and to fulfil my true potential. It was: Instant Confidence by Paul McKenna.
I picked it up one day and while reading it and listening to the CD which comes with it my life began to change for the better. I would recommend it highly to anyone who feels that they are lacking the self-confidence and belief needed to achieve.
