Drums/ Percussion

A lot of parents are wary of their children learning the Drums because it can be noisy. There are many steps you can take to avoid the usual pain of a Drum Kit that dominates the house. There are practice pads that do not allow the natural sound of the Drums to speak. There is also the option of electric Drum Kits.

However, I find the best method is to teach my students the value of sound quality. i.e. you can very often get a more desirable sound by playing softer, as long as good technique is applied. A good compromise is to have students practise their technical studies (rudiments etc) on a practice pad and then, take the pads off when they are playing in a more musical situation.
