One concern that prospective pupils have regularly expressed is that lessons on how to play the drums will 'suck the fun' out of performance. Perhaps this fear has prevented you from getting lessons, yet when you see a great gig, or listen to a great CD, or even just have a rehearsal with friends, you can't help but feel frustrated that you don't sound like that. This is a common dichotomy felt by musicians. On the one side, music can be a magical form of escapism to listen to and play, while on the other side, it can take a lot of work. Quite often this fear stems from a pupil's music tuition in the past, i.e. the pressure to achieve exams, or the feeling that practice is a 'chore' that has to be fitted into a hectic timetable.

I have experience in finding the best way of conveying an idea to a pupil in a way that excites them, and finding a method of practice that they will look forward to. As long as you are excited about music, with the right tuition you can practise things that relate directly to the music you love. And that's when practice seems less like practice. Just like speech, the natural human method of learning is to imitate, and my exercises and guidance will help you sound like the drummers you love without letting go of the sense of fun playing or listening to the drums gives you now.
