Before you write anything make a plan of the important points you want to cover, ie literary devices, form , structure and context.
Underline the important words in the question to help focus your answer.
Try and think of your essay in terms of a 'journey'
The introduction will tell your reader where you are going and how you are going to get there.
This means explain what you are going to be writing about and how you are going to explore the issue you are talking about.
Try to argue for and against each point as this shows your understanding of the subject.
Try to link each paragraph to the previous one.
At the end your conclusion should explore your journey, you should explain what you found out and what you learned.
One way of making sure you have covered as much as possible in an essay is use an approach I call Describe, give evidence and analysis
For example describe what you are talking about, then give some evidence and lastly give this information an analysis.
- Bertha is described as animalistic in Jane Eyre, a clothed hyena and wolfish cries, this has the effect of dehumanising her and creating sympathy for Rochester.
