J. J. Quantz's On Playing the Flute is one of the most important works in the history of flute teaching. This seminal work provides an insight into the history of the flute, its making, its techniques, and its use in performance, that will prove beneficial for students of any age or standard. It also offers expert advice on general musicianship, which is important for students of any instrument to maintain. Although modern developments and research into flute teaching have rendered some of Quantz's techniques obsolete, this is nevertheless a worthwhile and exciting read for any flute player.
