One of the biggest challenges in language learning is making the leap from grammar exercises and worksheets to truly communicating with another person in a language that is not your mother tongue.

If you want to improve your skills on your own so that you can make the most of your written and oral skills in your lessons and in the real world you could try the following:

- Listen to the radio in your target language

- Watch films in the target language (dubbed or original version)

- Read books in the target language (you could start with a book you have already read in English, so that you find it easier to understand the plot and vocabulary)

- Always note down useful new words you come across
