GCSE History

Generally, we all accept that in every day life everybody is different.  We all have varying, and equally effective ways to do the same task.  However, when it comes to learning at school this is not always given the degree of consideration that it deserves.  All students learn at different paces and respond better to some study techniques than others.

I can help you discover what is the best way for you to study, learn, and revise.  This will not only help you achieve higher grades in your school work but will also set you on the path to becoming a life-long learner!

There are three main types of learner: visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic.

A visual learner is someone who finds it easy to remember how things look like.  For example if somebody says to you the word “bicycle”, and you easily see a detailed picture of a bike in your mind, you may well be a visual learner.  This would mean that brightly coloured diagrams maybe an effective learning strategy for you.

There are also auditory learners.  These students learn best by hearing.  Auditory students may be extremely capable in a classroom following verbal dialogue and instructions to complete tasks.  However, if given reading, writing, or comprehension skills they may find this more challenging.  This may mean that discussion and bullet point lists may be easier for you to learn from.

Finally, there are kinaesthetic learners.  These are students who find it easy to learn by doing.  These students tend to excel in “hands on” subjects, such as music, drama, art, and science experiments.  However, classroom based subjects can prove more of a challenge.  Thus, techniques for kinaesthetic learners are more active.  They may take the form of acting topics, rhymes, or models of key points from lessons.

In order to find the most effective techniques to help you learn, it is vital to discover what sort of learner you are.  I can help you discover this and together we can work towards improving your study skills, confidence, grades, and enjoyment of school!
