The subject of mathematics often scares students away. Almost all teenagers feel that facing numbers is a daunting task. Although some students do love maths, often it is a more complex process for other students. However, when broken down into simple steps and procedures it’s easy.
Maths Example
Problem: Find the bearing of A from B
In finding the bearing of A from B, remember 3 things:
1. Start North
2. Proceed clockwise with your protractor until you reach A
3. Measure the angle
From the extensive experience I’ve had with students, I have come to find that they can follow these procedures fine, but still get the question wrong. This is where I come in to identify 'why?'.
When students get this question wrong, the main reason is because they were not able to read and understand the question properly, and in turn they were not able to answer with the processes that were needed to arrive at the solution fit for the question.
Therefore, in such a case, if the question asked ‘Find the bearing of B from A' (see above) then the student would give the same answer which would be wrong!
