What is Mathematics?

Mathematics is referred as "the Queen of the Sciences".

Mathematics can be subdivided into arithmetic, algebra and geometry.

Mathematics is used in the world as an essential tool in many fields.

President Obama has named 85 teachers as recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence in 2010 for Mathematics and Science teaching.

Studying about the great mathematicians of the past is unique and interesting.

Many of the mathematics principles were discovered centuries ago and most students often don't realize this until later in their mathematics studies.

The UK Mathematics Trust

The UK Mathematics Trust is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. It organizes national mathematics competitions and other mathematical activities for 11-18 year old UK school students. Six hundred thousand pupils from schools took part last year in the three individual challenges, the UK's biggest national mathematics competitions.

Schools should encourage their students to participate in such competitions which enhance their skills and understanding of mathematics. Students are advised to participate in mathematics competitions.
