Most people expect to do revision at the end of a course but I believe it should be continuous. By regularly revisiting past work the information can be stored in long term memory and so will stay longer. If revision is only undertaken before an exam it will only be stored in short term memory and this can be unreliable and nerve-wracking.

Using a revision guide from Day One will mean that it becomes a constant companion that you will become very familiar with. It can be used as your notebook, and every time you refer to it you will be reinforcing information that will gradually be stored in your long term memory. It will also make progression easier as you will have stronger foundations to work on as you build on previous topics.
