STOP PRESS! Online tutoring still carrying on as normal - don't worry about the snow over the Christmas period - let your tutor come to you down your phoneline!
If you live in a rural community, you will probably be used to the necessity of travelling everywhere in a car, or being held hostage to the vagaries of public transport (where it exists...) or even getting stuck indoors due to the snow. However, this does not have to extend to travelling to a tutor thanks to the wonders of modern science.
All you will need is a webcam and a decent broadband link to get the full 'online tuition' experience, which really can be as good as face-to-face tuition if done with some forward planning and just a little technical know-how on the part of the student. Let's face it, how many teenagers aren't up to speed with instant messaging, webcams and communicating via a keyboard and screen?
But here's the best bit - with snowy, wet, windy winter evenings on their way, who wants to be driving about taking your child to a tutor when it could all be done through the laptop on your kitchen table. This is often cheaper for you as the client as not only will you save on petrol costs (and your time), but many tutors will charge less for online tuition as they too can stay at home in the warm with all their resources to hand.
Payment is simple with online options such as PayPal, which anyone with a credit card and email address can use (you don't have to have a PayPal account to pay for lessons this way). This surely has to be the future of tutoring and reducing your carbon footprint at the same time. You have online deliveries of your groceries to save you time and money - why not apply the same principles to tutoring!
