Why to study a foreign language?

I have always loved getting to know new cultures and people! I started studying languages when I was still a child as I have always been interested in travelling and learning new things. I got so keen on knowing about languages and cultures that, later on, I chose to take a Language degree first, and then a master's. The more I was studying and going through languages, the more I was enjoying and getting passionate about them. Learning other languages has definitely opened up my eyes to a wholly new world. In fact, it has made me acquire many new competences and skills, along with making my life experiences really interesting and enjoyable.

Studying foreign languages is a rewarding journey into the infinite catalogue of human beings and societies around, and different than us. It's a massive adventure into the heart and the mind of people and cultures. In fact, languages are essential tools in order to communicate and get to know all these things. This is even more true nowadays, as we live in such a multicultural environment. I definitely think that learning languages helps us to be more open-minded, as well as it makes us able to look at the world from different points of view. Moreover, studying a foreign language also enriches us by making our life experiences more enjoyable, differentiated, worth living. Besides enhancing your career and personal opportunities, studying a foreign language will make it possible to make new friends and to have a lot of fun.

As foreign languages is such a lively and practical subject, the best learning approach is to carry out tasks while using the target language you want to learn. Interaction with native speakers and other learners is also fundamental, so that you can actually enjoy the time you spend studying because of all the communication and practical skills involved in the learning process.

So, why to study a foreign language?

All in all, studying languages increases a lot our awareness and knowledge about reality, as it greatly enhances our inter-cultural understanding and life skills. Additionally, studying foreign languages not only helps us to cope better with our daily life, but  it also gives us the opportunity to live new, enjoyable and fun experiences!
