I wrote my first proper song about...13 years ago.
I presented it to the teacher at the London Music School who used to teach songwriting and he was positively impressed.
At the time I wasn't confident with my guitar and I asked my then boyfriend to play it for me.
It became apparent that although I loved singing and playing music, in general for me "The Song" was what made Music really special. A good song is for Eternity and is remembered, played in various ways of course to fit the times, but the Melody, the chords progression stays ...and the song live on.
I used to co-write songs with mainly guitarists and eventually got fed up as I didn't feel I was getting the most out of my voice and creativity.
About 3 years ago I decided to improve my guitar playing and write songs that I could play in front of an audience all by myself. I didn't want to be the best guitarist at all, for me it was all about the song and the vibe I was creating.
It took me quite a long time to figure out how to write a good tune, and now I write 10 and keep 1.
Not all of them are good of course but they all have something worth keeping "the hook".
I would like to pass on the knowledge and experience I have in songwriting, and share what I think is "cool" and what is not so "cool", in modern times and understand the history of the song - how it evolved and why now we are so desperately trying to revive the past with Retro songs and sounds.
Just remember, musicians come and go...but their songs...will last (if good) forever!!
