Key Stage 1 Maths

The right brain is random, intuitive, holistic, synthesising, subjective and looks at wholes.

The left brain is logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective and looks at parts.

I bring the whole brain together to work in harmony to learn maths.

I use a range of accelerated learning techniques which simply means children are able more readily to retain the information.

For example, after a lesson about fractions, students may be asked to participate in `stream of consciousness' thinking or writing all that they know about fractions - this helps to solidify the learning.

The great thing about working in groups of 6 is that to support learning my students are able to work on their own, in pairs, threes or as a whole group.

My starting point is that all children are able to learn, given the right environment.  I do only have 6 places per class and so I will look at ability, enthusiasm for learning, commitment to learning and parental support.

I do provide weekly homework which I find children thrive on.

Regular tests will be provided and children just love to know how well they are doing.

I have the highest expectations of the children I work with and ultimately want them to have the highest expectations of themselves and they usually do.

About The Author

I believe strongly, all children have the ability to learn a huge amount. I encourage children's natural learning ability. My focus is on *`I can'* and the glass being *`half full'*.
