Evelyn Rothwell - Oboe Technique
Evelyn Rothwell (later Lady Barbirolli) was is one of the most highly acclaimed British oboists and made multiple solo recordings as well as being one of the first female woodwind players in the London Symphony Orchestra.
In 1957 she wrote 'Oboe Technique', a short book with chapters on each intergral part of oboe playing with countless exercises notated for each specific problem including tonguing, finger co-ordination and breathing.
The most important aspect of the book for young or beginner students is the chapter on practice - transforming your own private practice which is easy to leave unstructured and unproductive.
With numerous ways to learn scales (an essential for students taking exams) and a step-by-step schedule for warm-up, scales, studies and pieces it is impossible to go wrong if following this easy technique.
The way the book is produced makes it invaluable for any player, those at Grade 1 will get as much out of it as those much more advanced (if not more!)
