Whittow: Oboe - A Reed Blown in the Wind

This book is full of charming anecdotes for professionals, amateurs, students, parents and enthusiasts alike.   With some very helpful tips on how to practise, what to practise, reed making, instrument maintenance and much more, there's lots to learn with some giggles along the way.

Goossens/Roxburgh: Oboe (Yehudi Menuhin Guide)

Very informative book with lots to learn about the oboe, its history, playing techniques, repertoire, fingerings and much more.   Suitable for the serious student/amateur/professional.

Schaeferdiek: Foundations of Oboe Playing

Another great book for the serious student/amateur/professional, this book discusses in great detail how and what to practise, alongside posture, breathing and other very important aspects of oboe playing.

Caplan: Oboe Motions - What Every Oboe Player Needs to Know About the Body

A book which looks at body mapping (knowing all about the parts of your body and how they function and move) in relation to playing the oboe.   It touches on lots of topics, including breathing, tonguing, embouchure and performance anxiety.

Ristad: A Soprano on her Head

This book can't be praised enough.   Although not specific to the oboe, it should be read by all performing and teaching musicians.   It greatly enhanced both my teaching and performing.   Written in a witty style, the author recounts her experiences in teaching musicians to overcome their issues with their technique or with performance anxiety.   A truly fantastic book.
