Too often, I hear people tell me: "I don't understand how to listen to Classical music."
To be honest, I didn't really understand until I took music lessons, but more so in my early 20's when I was immersed in classical music for 6 hours a day for 7 days a week. Then in my last two years, I discovered what discipline exactly was when I attended the Royal Academy of Music. It was difficult to develop this discipline because I was far too curious about the vibrant city of London: from its history to politics; agriculture to cooking; and culture to architecture. I especially love drawing similarities between music and other fields, especially with the culinary world. Eventually, I did sharpen my focus and I learned to love and appreciate the rewards that discipline had to offer.
It is true that a lot of focus, attention, and patience is required when delving into the world of classical music but more importantly, an inspiring teacher to keep one motivated. The more exposure you get (whether it's from music lessons or going to concerts), the more your ear will ripen and you'll become a music connoisseur in no time!
