Learning to play the piano is one of the best gifts my parents have given to me. Having the ability to express oneself through music is priceless and is largely underrated in our materialistically-driven world. We can all enjoy listening to music but to be able to play an instrument and to actively take part in music making is something extra special.
Although a considerable amount of time and effort needs to be put into learning music and mastering your instrument it is definitely worth it in the end. There will be times when you are practising or performing and you feel that everything just falls into place and your playing feels effortless and you are living in the moment, experiencing a 'flow' moment.
Besides the enjoyment, I believe that learning an instrument helps children (and adults) to become more focused and teaches children that after persistence their hard work will pay off. Even if the child does not want to do music as a career it will definitely help them in other areas of their life.
