Piano

Up to the 19th century there was no separation between performers and composers as they were one and the same. Nowadays we are educating young musicians to imitate great works from the past as an attempt to keep them alive.

But a hard question remains - how to do it? If we imitate everything that is written, we kill creativity. But if we are creative, we run the risk of not being authentic anymore.

This is maybe where art takes over from science - we need to imitate the process rather than the end result.
