Finding a piano teacher who suits you, or your child, is important, as piano lessons are much more than just learning the notes - with the right piano teacher you can build up a positive relationship of mutual respect and friendship, which will nourish your musical and creative development. For example, one thing I try to encourage in my lessons is an enthusiasm for the instrument, as learning the piano should be a fun and empowering experience. If you don't enjoy it, you will find it much harder to learn anything.
Whether you are totally new to music or want to develop your existing skills, learning the piano in a calm, stimulating and encouraging environment can also provide a unique opportunity for personal development. Piano lessons give you some time to focus on yourself without the distractions of daily life, and encompass a whole range of life skills such as self-discipline, sensitivity, analytical thinking and so on.
It is important that you meet your potential teacher before committing to a course of lessons - don't be shy about voicing any particular interests you have (jazz, theory, a particular composer etc). The more you share with your teacher, the more they can help you to get the most out of your lessons. I wish you all the best with your musical endeavours, and hope to hear from you soon!
