Whenever we get up to speak whether it is with a group of friends or to an audience of many, the first thing people notice is you - even before you have opened your mouth.
So present the audience with a sight they are comfortable with.
NVC (non verbal communication) accounts for 60% of the impact we have, so let us present the right image to start. Then we have to open our mouth, from here on in we make or break that first impression. This is where the homework comes in. Regional accents are accepted more these days, although no one would would admit it, it does still make a difference, it is still influential.
Now accepting the fact we are proud of our heritage, let's make the most of it and speak clearly and confidently. What is worse than a regional accent badly delivered, think of the call centres we are all too familiar with. Diction, clarity, and a word we never use today elocution, let us exploit them all. We are going to deliver an experience from the heart, something they will all respect, whether they agree or not is up to them, but we will deliver it as we believe it.
Now wouldn't you prefer to hear a presentation like this, than a half hearted, illprepared attempt to persuade a group of people to follow you into the unknown.
How we go about perfecting the skills is up to us but prefessional guidance will shortcut the years of anguish as we struggle alone.
Learn from the mistakes of others, and save time by not making the same mistakes ourselves.
