Empathetic Teaching of French and Spanish.

As a French and Spanish Tutor in North West London I find it a great pity that today's teaching seems geared towards mainly teaching colloquialisms and expressions with little or no grammatical knowledge. As you can imagine it would be very difficult to put a sentence together with no verbs for example. It is almost impossible to learn every single expression parrot fashion. Understanding the rules cuts down the rote learning tremendously to such a stage you really just need to learn new vocabulary and the relatively few grammatical exceptions.

With exceptions of course, the best teacher or tutor is a foreign one to French or Spanish because they learnt the language very differently from a native speaker. Imagine trying to teach English being English. We just learn it automatically with very little technical understanding. It is exactly the same thing. The other advantage with this is that we know what we struggled with at school which makes us far more patient when our students struggle thus giving them the support and understanding that they need.
