¿Español o Castellano?
Español and Castellano are the same language.
Spanish (Español) is the name our language which is known worldwide. But, mainly for us Spanish speakers, it is also called Castillan (Castellano) as it is the original name it had when it was born, in Castilla, Spain, around a thousand years ago.
Español (or Castellano) is the official language of Spain and nineteen Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Uruguay and Venezuela).
It is important to know that, although they are not official, there are other languages that were born and are spoken in certain regions of Spain. Because of that they are Spanish languages as well. Some of them are: Catalán (spoken in Cataluña), Gallego (spoken in Galicia), Euskaro or Vasco (País Vasco).
