As a teacher, it is always nice when students want to practise. In London, and small flats it can be difficult to practise without annoying the neighbours! Some great advice if you are getting really interested and wanting to do some practice in small spaces is to buy a special mute called a Silent Brass Mute. They are made by Yamaha and are absolutely fantastic for keeping noise to a minimum. The student will not notice much of a difference in playing, and if anything it will encourage you to breathe more effectively and open up the sound. These can be ordered over the internet or any music shop. Well worth a buy!
