I believe that playing a musical instrument can be fun and rewarding and it has been proven to have many benefits....

1) PLAYING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MAKES YOU SMARTER

There have been many scientific studies done and it has been proven that children who play an instrument or have been exposed to music do better in school than children who haven't been exposed to it or played an instrument.  Recent studies also show that being exposed to music may improve their IQ, reading age and development of certain parts of the brain.  Adults can also get benefits from learning and instrument as it helps the mind to be much more alert and aware and helps improve your memory.

2) DISCIPLINE

Playing a musical instrument can be hard and challenging at times but one of the qualities that musicians posses is discipline.  In order to master playing your instrument you have to be disciplined and make yourself sit down and practice and practice some more until you get it right.

3) MUSIC RELIEVES STRESS

Calm soothing music has been proven to relieve stress and makes us much more relaxed.  After a long and stressful day and you just want a break from everything, sit down and unwind by listening to some soft music and you will quickly realize that  it helps to calm the mind.  It can also have the same effect when you are playing an instrument.

4)  ACHIEVEMENT

If you are just beginning to learn to play an instrument then it can be very frustrating at first if you can't do something.  However, if you keep practising then you will soon achieve your goal and the feeling once you have mastered it will be priceless.  It can help to give you something to be proud of no matter what age or standard that you are.

5) FUN

Although it can be a lot of hard work at times it is mainly very fun.  The harder you work, the more opportunities will arise and the more fun it will become.  It can also be fun socially as by playing music you get to meet a lot of similar and exciting people and share your passion for music with each other.
