Learning to play any instrument should be fun. The trumpet is just a device to play music through and enables others to enjoy music as well. Listening to music is a fantastic inspiration to practise and copy what you have heard, which develops your technique and musicianship skills.
It is not always the best idea to spend lots of money on new music books to try and improve your playing. Your teacher should be able to write out your favourite tunes and songs, which can be more enjoyable and beneficial than playing the repertoire in most books.
