Some books I'm using in my teaching right now are:
An Introduction to English Poetry by James Fenton. Extremely good for learning how poetry works and why it matters.
The Buzan Study Skills Handbook by Tony Buzan. Are you a procrastinator? Do you sit and look at your notes but nothing goes in? This book is an excellent guide to using your time well, remembering more and feeling more confident in your studies.
How to Be More Interesting by Edward de Bono. De Bono invented the phrase 'lateral thinking'. Have a look at this (or any of his other books) for practical philosophy, thought-experiments, tools for structuring your analysis and more.
Professor Stewart's Cabinet of Mathematical Curiosities. A great book, for mathematicians and others, of games, puzzles, jokes and facts.
